L\u2019un de ces mythes destructeurs, largement incontest\u00e9 dans la culture contemporaine est que \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019esprit est ce que fait le cerveau\u00a0\u00bb. Le psychiatre Stan Grof a expliqu\u00e9 comment ce mythe moderne a conduit \u00e0 un \u00ab\u00a0d\u00e9ni massif de la mort\u00a0\u00bb dans la civilisation industrielle occidentale\u00a0:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"western\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Selon les neurosciences occidentales, la conscience est un \u00e9piph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de la mati\u00e8re, un produit des processus physiologiques du cerveau, et d\u00e9pend donc \u00e9troitement du corps. La mort du corps, et en particulier du cerveau, est alors consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme la fin absolue de toute forme d\u2019activit\u00e9 consciente. La croyance en un voyage posthume de l\u2019\u00e2me, en une vie apr\u00e8s la mort ou en la r\u00e9incarnation est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement ridiculis\u00e9e comme le fruit des souhaits de personnes incapables d\u2019accepter l\u2019\u00e9vidence biologique de la mort [<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote4sym\" name=\"sdfootnote4anc\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a>].<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Aujourd\u2019hui, la plupart des scientifiques partagent ce point de vue et la majorit\u00e9 de la communaut\u00e9 neuroscientifique y croit avec autant de ferveur et de t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 que n\u2019importe quel dogme religieux du pass\u00e9. L\u2019auteur am\u00e9ricain Richard Grossinger a lanc\u00e9 un avertissement\u00a0: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">La notion selon laquelle la conscience doit se r\u00e9duire enti\u00e8rement aux fonctions et aux fluctuations du cerveau, donc de la mati\u00e8re\u2026 n\u2019est pas une v\u00e9rit\u00e9 transparente ou une loi impartiale. C\u2019est de la propagande [<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote5sym\" name=\"sdfootnote5anc\"><sup>5<\/sup><\/a>]. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Grof a fait une autre observation, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement m\u00e9connue\u00a0:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"western\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Tr\u00e8s peu de gens, y compris la plupart des scientifiques, r\u00e9alisent que nous <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">n\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">avons absolument <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>aucune preuve<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/em> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">que la conscience est r\u00e9ellement produite par le cerveau et que nous n\u2019avons pas la moindre id\u00e9e de la mani\u00e8re dont une telle chose pourrait se produire. Malgr\u00e9 cela, l\u2019hypoth\u00e8se m\u00e9taphysique de base reste l\u2019un des principaux mythes de la science mat\u00e9rialiste occidentale et exerce une profonde influence sur l\u2019ensemble de notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 (<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">c\u2019est nous qui soulignons<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">) <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote6sym\" name=\"sdfootnote6anc\"><sup>6<\/sup><\/a>].<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><a name=\"cesectitle0005\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>L\u2019absence m\u00e9taphysique<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">La r\u00e9duction de l\u2019esprit, associ\u00e9e au d\u00e9ni de l\u2019\u00e2me et de l\u2019esprit, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">a<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> domin\u00e9 une grande partie de la culture contemporaine, g\u00e9n\u00e9rant ce que l\u2019historien Theodore Roszak a d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab\u00a0le d\u00e9sespoir n\u00e9 d\u2019une conscience diminu\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote7sym\" name=\"sdfootnote7anc\"><sup>7<\/sup><\/a>].<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> Les adeptes de cette s\u00e9cularisation brutale de la conscience proclament que l\u2019univers est <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">d\u00e9nu\u00e9<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">d\u2019<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">esprit \u2014 d\u00e9pourvu d\u2019\u00e2me, d\u2019esprit, de but ou d\u2019intelligence. Le biologiste Jacques Monod a propos\u00e9 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">que<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> \u00ab\u00a0La pierre angulaire de la m\u00e9thode scientifique est le postulat de l\u2019objectivit\u00e9 de la Nature\u00a0\u00bb dans son ouvrage influent de 19<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">70<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Le hasard et la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. L\u2019attitude scientifique, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Monod, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">implique <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00ab\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[\u2026]<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> la <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>non-existence<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> d\u2019un projet, d\u2019un but poursuivi, o\u00f9 que ce soit dans la nature\u00a0\u00bb. Pour Monod, il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 du \u00ab\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">plus profond <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">message de la science\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 savoir que le raisonnement scientifique est fond\u00e9 sur la ferme croyance en \u00ab\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">le <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">vide indiff\u00e9rent de l\u2019univers\u00a0\u00bb <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote8sym\" name=\"sdfootnote8anc\"><sup>8<\/sup><\/a>].<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">La philosophe Mary Midgley a comment\u00e9 le postulat de Monod en ces termes\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Cette revendication moderne est, bien s\u00fbr, principalement destin\u00e9e \u00e0 se d\u00e9barrasser de Dieu, mais elle est tout aussi fatale pour le reste de la vie qui nous entoure\u00a0\u00bb [<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote9sym\" name=\"sdfootnote9anc\"><sup>9<\/sup><\/a>]. Elle a engendr\u00e9 la crise existentielle et la d\u00e9vastation \u00e9cologique du monde moderne. L\u2019historien de la culture Richard Tarnas conclut\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Nous vivons dans un monde o\u00f9 la science moderne conventionnelle a essentiellement vid\u00e9 le cosmos de toute signification et de tout but intrins\u00e8ques\u00a0\u00bb [<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote10sym\" name=\"sdfootnote10anc\"><sup>10<\/sup><\/a>].<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">L\u2019absence m\u00e9taphysique et la perte de conscience transcendante sont largement r\u00e9pandues dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 contemporaine. Pourtant, ce point de vue humaniste\/scientifique dominant, selon lequel la conscience ne peut exister au-del\u00e0 du cerveau humain, a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9nonc\u00e9 et rejet\u00e9 par le philosophe d\u2019Oxford Peter Hacker comme \u00e9tant une confusion conceptuelle, r\u00e9pandue au sein de la communaut\u00e9 neuroscientifique, dont les adeptes commettent d\u2019importantes erreurs de cat\u00e9gorie philosophique et racontent fondamentalement n\u2019importe quoi.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"western\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Selon le point de vue actuel des neuroscientifiques, c\u2019est le cerveau qui pense, raisonne, calcule, croit, craint et esp\u00e8re. En fait, ce sont les \u00eatres humains qui accomplissent toutes ces choses, et non leur cerveau ou leur esprit. Je pense qu\u2019il n\u2019y a aucun sens \u00e0 parler d\u2019op\u00e9rations psychologiques ou mentales effectu\u00e9es par le cerveau <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote11sym\" name=\"sdfootnote11anc\"><sup>11<\/sup><\/a>]<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Outre les probl\u00e8mes conceptuels et philosophiques de l\u2019affirmation r\u00e9ductionniste, il existe \u00e9galement un vaste corpus de preuves exp\u00e9rimentales qui ne cesse de cro\u00eetre et qui soutient la non-localit\u00e9 de la conscience. Comme le rapporte le chercheur en conscience et auteur Stephan Schwartz\u00a0:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"western\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Les preuves que la conscience est fondamentale et durable ne cesseront de s\u2019accumuler. La question n\u2019est pas de savoir si elles seront prises en compte, mais seulement de savoir combien de temps l\u2019ancien paradigme physicaliste persistera <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote12sym\" name=\"sdfootnote12anc\"><sup>12<\/sup><\/a>]<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><a name=\"cesectitle0006\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Des mondes subtils, ici-m\u00eame<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Alors que Bennet et Hacker consid\u00e8rent le foss\u00e9 entre le cerveau et la conscience comme une illusion pour des raisons linguistiques et s\u00e9mantiques, et que les neuroscientifiques le consid\u00e8rent comme inexistant parce qu\u2019ils ont confondu les deux domaines et \u00e9vinc\u00e9 la psych\u00e9 ou l\u2019\u00e2me, le neurobiologiste George Wald, laur\u00e9at du prix Nobel, fait preuve d\u2019humilit\u00e9 face au myst\u00e8re de la conscience\u00a0:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"western\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">J\u2019ai pass\u00e9 la plus grande partie de ma vie scientifique \u00e0 \u00e9tudier le m\u00e9canisme de la vision\u2026 On peut rassembler tout ce que nous avons appris et y ajouter tout ce que les c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">herch<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">eurs dans ce domaine esp\u00e8rent apprendre\u00a0; et rien de tout cela ne s\u2019approche de pr\u00e8s ou de loin de ce que signifie voir, ni m\u00eame ne vise \u00e0 le faire. C\u2019est le probl\u00e8me de la conscience\u2026 Voir \u2014 l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement d<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">ans<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"> la conscience \u2014 semble <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">se situer dans un autre univers, inaccessible \u00e0 la science <\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">(<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">emphase ajout\u00e9e)<\/span><\/span><\/em> <em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">[<a class=\"sdfootnoteanc\" href=\"#sdfootnote13sym\" name=\"sdfootnote13anc\"><sup>13<\/sup><\/a>]<\/span><\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">C\u2019est peut-\u00eatre parce que la science est limit\u00e9e \u00e0 un univers qui peut \u00eatre mesur\u00e9, alors que \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement dans la conscience\u00a0\u00bb est immat\u00e9riel et ne peut pas \u00eatre mesur\u00e9. Ce qui nous permet de \u00ab\u00a0voir\u00a0\u00bb existe dans un <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">autre ordre de r\u00e9alit\u00e9 \u2014 \u00ab\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">ailleurs\u00a0\u00bb \u2014 et pourtant, paradoxalement, <\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">ici et maintenant<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.
